I just got this a16 for Christmas why is it saying that we got it from a best buy near us.

If i read right the phones a verizon model i.e carrier that would explain why the uodates not working right

My mom has a Verizon Sim card should I do that or go to a service center

Try the verizon Sim it should be doing updates

The problem is when I had my old phone it had a Sim card but it never fit into the new tray so I don't know how it'll work plus I don't think my mom will let me do that her phone bugs alot she can't take photos anymore

May of had the older size sim there slightly smaller now could see about getting sim

@meself is correct. The phone is looking for the Verizon update server. You'll have to insert a Verizon SIM (doesn't have to be active) every time you want to download an update.

Or you can take your phone to an authorized service center to have them flash unlocked firmware. There will be a fee for this service. See this link to find a location near you:
