I am having a hard time moving icons from one window/screen to another. A younger friend tried to help me do the same and he too had problems. The icon moves up a little or down a little or joins another icon to make a group. What I want to do is move it left to another window/screen and this is very difficult to do so. Almost impossible.

There's a trick to it, but it's not generally simple.  You have to press and hold the icon while moving it and make sure to move it to a completely blank space, not near another icon, and you have to make sure there is space on the page you are trying to move the app to. Just because it looks like there is blank space does not mean there is an available spot for your app. If you are trying exchange an icon on one screen for another, it's best to either remove the icon to be replaced or move it to another screen first, then move the new icon.

hi and thnx realaud 🙂 Yes, I am aware that one needs to press and hold. As said, it is not only I that tried but a young friend as well. it is also an action that both of us have done a million times before. Some of these icons are surrounded by other icons and there is a tendency for the icon that i want to move to want to stick to another icon instead of going where I want it to go--which is to another screen. Other icons, meanwhile, aren't as crowded and yet they still do the same. I am wondering if my screen is damaged or else why would 2 of us have such problems? I also wish there were another method to move icons other than 'tap and hold' then move--for ex,  the equivalent of a right-click on a computer whereby the option exists to 'move to'.

If there is no space on the page you are trying to move an app icon to, it will automatically form a folder with the icon directly adjacent to it, or you will get an error message that there is no more space on the page.  If you are trying to move an icon to a page where there is enough space, you have to make sure you are placing it in a completely blank area, or a folder is likely to form.  Also, check to see that you don't have your home screen locked against changes.  If it's locked, it will prevent any movement of apps between pages, however, it should also prevent new folders from being formed.  There is a hidden grid on the pages that you can only see when trying to move icons by pressing and dragging.  Make sure you are placing your icons directly between the grid dots.

It's actually too simple to put an App Icon to any screen page you like with zero attempt at grabbing it to move.

So let's start with pressing on it from page it's on now and let go to reveal command to remove it.
Remove it.

Now simply swipe sideways to screen you want it on.

There's clear space there for it, so now swipe up to reveal the App groups of Icons.

Simply stand on the App Icon will now automatically drop to screen you just came from.
I have the 4 yr old Note20Ultra and suspect this is Samsung's default action across models.
Cheers

Thank you so much. You put a smile on my face. It didn't say "remove" which worried me initially, it said "select" but the following step did what you said. In other words it works 🙂
