You can significantly limit the spam calls you get by enabling spam protection in your Dialer settings.

Open phone app > 3 dots, top right > turn on Caller ID and Spam protection.

Your carrier may or may not offer additional protection as well.

The best method for reducing these kinds of calls is to never, ever answer a phone call from a number that is not in your contacts, even if you think it may be someone actually trying to reach you. When you answer the call, spammers/scammers know they have hit a live number and will continue to call from different numbers.

Don't even decline the call. Even that registers as a positive hit, and they will add your number to a list, most likely selling your info. Just let anything that isn't a saved contact ring through.

If someone truly needs to reach you, they will almost always leave a voicemail.1768527199955.jpg

Please use the reply button when responding so other users can get a notification when you comment.

If you find the built-in Spam protection insufficient, you could always try a third party app like Robokiller. I haven't personally tried the service, but I know people who swear by it.

Which Messages app are you using? Google Messages offers superior Spam filtering. I rarely, if ever see any of the Spam I get in Messages.

Carriers have call filter apps some work better than others but as for the scam or suspicious call notice that's the networks filter to alert you

Caller ID is automatic unless turned off by the caller. If your son were calling, even from a number you don't know, it likely wouldn't show up as a scam call. Turning on spam protection will send scam call to voicemail but won't ring the phone. You can then listen to voicemail and call legitimate callers back. Does your son not have a number of his own, that he's not in your contacts list?

A couple of alternatives may be to
1. Have your son text first that he's going to call
2. Download Google Voice, set up a free Google Voice number and only give it to your son.
3. If your son has a device but has no phone plan at the moment, he can set up a Google Voice number and call you from that. You would also be able to add him to your contacts.

I don't want to assume anything, but if your son is incarcerated, calls from those instituitions shouldn't come up as scam calls.

Your social worker should have their own number that you can add to your contacts. Either way, their calls should not come up as a scam call, it should either have their agency name or their own name in the caller ID.

No he just got the phone probably 3 weeks ago and I just haven't put it in there yet but it's not just from him it's for my social worker too she calls with different number so over somebody important like I'm looking for a job and don't say the company or anybody and all my numbers just say scam number

If all those unknown calls are coming in as scam likely, it's likely those phone numbers were spoofed at some point.  Unless your SW is calling from pay phones, any number she calls from should just show the number, not be labeled as scam likely. I don't know why a SW would call from different numbers, unless they are calling from an office line with rollover trunk lines - it should still be ID'd with the agency name.  SW are usually issued cell phones for work so that they don't have to use their personal phones to call clients.

If your son has a new number, you should immediately add it to your contacts so that it doesn't come up as spam.  You can report it as not spam.  I don't understand why it would take yo 3 weeks to add a new number to contacts - if I get a new contact, I add it immediately.  As I said, your son can text you first, "hi mom, I'm going to call you now", so that you know you can answer regardless what the caller ID says.

If you are looking for a job, having a Google Voice number is a good option, as you can give that number out as your contact number and you can set Google Voice to show your GV number on your call screen so you will know it was someone calling you back.

ALL your calls should not come up as scam calls unless those are the only calls you are getting.  If you get a call you later determine to not be a scam call, you can report that number as "not spam".  The advice to let all calls that come up as scam likely to voicemail either by blocking or just letting the phone ring, is the best that can be given.  Legitimate callers who leave messages can always be called back.
