According to the documentation  I should be able to push the side (power) button and the volume-down button simultaneously to take a screenshot. This doesn't work; either the "power off / reset" option appears or the volume slider appears and no screenshot is taken.

What am I missing?

That should work if you press it but do not hold it. You can also tell Bixby or Google assistant to take a screenshot if you have that on your phone.

It's a dexterity thing ... both buttons need to be pushed at exactly the same moment and released.

There's also a "Palm swipe" option in the settings, whereby you slide the edge of your hand across the screen

The other option is to speak the option with Bixby or Assistant

Yep, that solved it! My old fingers weren't nimble enough at first, but I got it right now. I need both hands to push both buttons quickly and briefly at the same time, but at least it works now. Tnx!
