galaxy s23 ultra.
in the past when I quick-pressed the power button putton my phone would go to a dimmed screen. it had a black background but I could see the clock and the notification icons. then something happened - I don't know what - and now when I quick-press the power button the screen goes completely black.

where is the setting to get to back to the previous dimmed screen?

The feature you're probably thinking of is called Always On Display. Its in settings under "Lock screen and AOD"

thankyou but I've already toggled 'Always On Display' on and off but it made no difference. attached is a screenshot of what I get under "Lock screen and AOD", there's nothing there I can see that will enable the dimmed screen rather than a black screen.

my phone used to go to a dimmed screen so I'm still puzzled as to how to get this feature backScreenshot_20250304_124740_Settings.jpg

Hello,

It sounds like your phone’s Always On Display (AOD) settings or Lock Screen behavior may have changed. To restore the dimmed screen with a clock and notifications after pressing the power button, try the following:

1) Check Always On Display settings (Settings > Lock Screen & AOD > Always On Display) and ensure it’s enabled with “Tap to Show” or "Show for 10 seconds” instead of “Off.”
2) Verify Side Key settings (Settings > Advanced Features > Side Key) to ensure it's not mapped to another function.
3) Adjust your Lock Screen Timeout settings to prevent the screen from turning completely black too quickly.
4) Restart your phone to reset any unintentional changes.

For S23 Community Board, please visit S23 / S23+ / S23 Ultra - Samsung Community for further assitance.

Let us know if any of these steps help.

Regards,
