QuestionsThanks for your question!
The āLocation is being usedā icon typically appears when either apps or system-level services are actively accessing your deviceās location in the background. Some common system apps and services that can trigger this include:
Google Play Services ā often used for things like geofencing, Find My Device, or location history syncing
Samsung Weather ā checks your location to update local forecasts
Samsung Continuity Services ā may use location for seamless device handoff or Smart View
SmartThings ā if location-based automations are enabled
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth scanning ā for location accuracy improvements, even if GPS is off
If the location icon stays on continuously (even when no apps are in use), it might be a bug introduced in recent software updates. In fact, many users in the One UI 7 Beta have reported persistent GPS icon visibility, often tied to background activity from system services like Google Play Services.
To check what's using your location:
1. Go to Settings > Location > App permissions
2. Tap the 3-dot menu > Show system apps
3. Look for apps marked as āAllowed all the timeā or āUsing locationā
Let us know if youāre still seeing the icon even after adjusting those settings, and we recommend submitting an error report via Samsung Members > Beta Feedback if you're part of the beta program.
Regards,
One UI Beta Team
