This is my personal opinion, and I do not intend to impose it on others or expect my opinion to be the only one accepted. Please make sure to fully understand the key points of this post before leaving a comment.

1. Overall Consistency and Uniformity of UI/UX

  • As mentioned in other posts, the names of various menus and button descriptions are inconsistent, and I believe these need to be corrected.
  • The left and right margins within the UI differ across menus, which makes it look somewhat inconsistent. In the current Beta 3 version, it seems these margins have been made uniformly narrower. However, I think wider margins would look better in the notification panel/quick panel. It would be great if the margins in other menus, such as the editing menu or quick panel editing menu, could also be adjusted for consistency to provide users with a unified experience.
  • The issue where the text in the battery icon does not appear centered at 100% due to font differences should also be addressed.
  • Some widgets have a background blur applied while others donā€™t, or the blur intensity varies. This should also be unified.

2. Status Bar (Icon Changes or Options for Users / Vertical Margins)

  • In the case of iOS, due to the notch or Dynamic Island, the amount of information displayed in the status bar is limited. However, the icons are generally thicker, and the fonts provide a sense of stability, making the design look good.
  • On Android, more information is displayed for user convenience, such as notification contents and Wi-Fi/data upload/download indicators, which are very convenient in necessary situations.
  • It would be ideal to utilize Galaxy's punch-hole design to maintain a visually appealing look while displaying abundant information. Allowing users to choose between different icon styles would also be a good approach since some may prefer the older icons.
  • While the improved battery icon is excellent, as mentioned above, a unified design that matches the battery icon's style would be preferable.
  • In the status bar, the clock appears bold, whereas the carrier logo on the left is thin, making it look inconsistent. This should be resolved through cooperation with the carriers.
  • Due to aligning with the punch hole, the vertical spacing of icons in the status bar varies, which looks slightly awkward when the status bar's color differs. It would be better if this could be adjusted for uniformity.

3. Animation Improvements

  • Although animations have been continuously improved with each beta version, there is still a slight unnatural feel. Referring to the Ease In/Out-related posts mentioned earlier would be helpful.
  • It would be nice to incorporate a curve similar to the leaked ZXKN curve for better timing.
  • When using navigation bar swipe gestures (upward) or button controls instead of multi-directional swipe gestures, the animations feel abrupt and inconsistent, which seems a bit awkward. Addressing this for uniformity would be appreciated.
  • When pulling down the quick panel/notification shade, it would be better if the bound animation was more responsive and consistent with user touch interactions.
  • Any stuttering issues should also be resolved.

4. Improving Now Bar's Integration with Third-Party Apps

  • Similar to iOS's Live Activity feature, it would be great if the Now Bar could integrate with third-party apps to display information like estimated delivery times.
  • If this is difficult to support in Play Store apps, it might be worth encouraging developers to upload Now Bar-supported third-party apps to the Galaxy Store.

5. Wider Use of Squircle Curvature

  • Applying Squircle curvature more broadly in the UI would eliminate the unnatural feeling caused by the abrupt start and end of circular curvature.

6. Improving Sound Effects

  • Feedback from both domestic and international communities (X, Reddit, etc.) suggests that most users are dissatisfied with the sound effects in the Beta 3 update. Revising or rolling back the current sound effects or introducing additional sound themes beyond Galaxy/Calm/Joyful/Retro could be a good solution.

Summary:

  1. Modify menu and item names for consistency; adjust UI margins/battery icon text alignment to improve uniformity.
  2. Suggest changes to the status bar icon design, giving users more options. Adjust vertical margins to avoid inconsistencies caused by aligning with the punch hole.
  3. Address animation stuttering, adopt ZXKN curves, and refer to Ease In/Out-related posts for improvements. Enhance button-based navigation bar animations and quick panel/notification shade animations.
  4. Enable Now Bar integration with third-party apps for more intuitive use, similar to iOS's Live Activity.
  5. Expand the use of Squircle curvature in the UI design.
  6. Revise or roll back sound effects based on user feedback or introduce new sound themes.

Thank you for creating a unique version of One UI that we havenā€™t seen before. I hope that some of these suggestions can be incorporated, even partially, to make One UI even better. Iā€™ve heard that the upcoming beta may focus on bug fixes without major changes, which is a bit disappointing, but itā€™s still a significant improvement compared to One UI 6.

Thank you for reading this long post!

Hello,

Thank you for your thoughtful and comprehensive feedback. It's evident you've put a lot of time and effort into analyzing various aspects of One UI 7, and your insights are invaluable. Let us address some of the key points youā€™ve raised and provide assurance that your suggestions will be shared with the development team.

1. Consistency and Uniformity in UI/UX

Your emphasis on consistent margins, menu descriptions, and unified widget designs resonates strongly. A unified visual language is essential to providing a seamless user experience, and addressing issues like font alignment in the battery icon or varying blur intensities can significantly enhance the interface. We'll highlight these concerns to the team for further refinement.

2. Status Bar Enhancements

Your suggestion to offer customizable icon styles and improve the vertical alignment of status bar elements is excellent. Allowing users to choose between modern and classic styles, while resolving inconsistencies in carrier logo and clock font thickness, could improve both aesthetics and usability. Weā€™ll make sure this feedback is forwarded for review.

3. Animation Improvements

Animations play a crucial role in delivering a smooth and polished experience. Your observations regarding abrupt transitions and inconsistent gestures are noted. Suggestions like incorporating the ZXKN curve and enhancing touch responsiveness in the quick panel are great, and weā€™ll ensure they are shared with the relevant teams.

4. Now Bar and Third-Party App Integration

Extending the Now Barā€™s functionality to integrate with third-party apps, similar to iOSā€™s Live Activity feature, is a fantastic idea. Encouraging app developers to create Now Bar-supported content for the Galaxy Store could indeed set One UI apart as a more intuitive and versatile platform.

5. Squircle (Squre-Circleish design on One UI 7, aka oval shape) Curvature

Expanding the use of squircle curvature in UI design is a brilliant suggestion. This design consistency would lend a more cohesive and modern feel across the interface, and Iā€™ll make sure the team considers this.

6. Sound Effects

Sound feedback is an integral part of the user experience, and itā€™s clear that the current sound effects are not universally loved. Revisiting these effects or introducing new sound themes is a great way to offer more personalization, and weā€™ll ensure this feedback reaches the development team.

Final Thoughts

Your post highlights both the strengths and opportunities for improvement in One UI 7, and we appreciate your positive yet constructive tone. While the upcoming beta may focus on bug fixes, suggestions like yours play a critical role in shaping future updates. Weā€™ll ensure your feedback is relayed to the appropriate teams and hope to see some of these ideas implemented in the future.

Thank you again for your detailed inputā€”itā€™s contributions like yours that help make One UI better for everyone. If you have more thoughts, feel free to share them anytime.

Regards,

One UI Beta Team
