Some thoughts on UHQ upscaler

I am someone who A) likes control over my audio and, B) doesn't like vague descriptions. Right now UHQ Upscaler unfortunately both turns itself on any time UHQ itself is turned on, and doesn't really give any description on what it's actually doing.

I know the Buds 3 aren't exactly audiophile headphones, but I've been using Tidal with them a fair bit recently and enjoying the quality with the buds 3. But the Upscaler confuses me, is it trying to upscale music that's already far past the 96 kHz sample rate? Is that draining battery being on? So I turned it off just so it wouldn't do anything, but I keep finding that it's turned itself back on.

My actual suggestion is for an info button to be added with some clarity, and for this option to remember its last state. For the info, some clarity about what it does and what sample rate of music it does or doesn't affect. (i.e. "This affects any music at or below 44.1 kHz sample rate" or something like that.)

I'd just like it to be more than a button that somehow magically makes audio sound better (which is slightly noticeable sometimes, but especially when streaming already high sample rate music is completely unnoticeable in my experience.)

I don't think it's for the music itself, it's the quality of the audio being SENT to the Buds. I believe older Buds had lower quality audio sent to them. I noticed an IMMEDIATE improvement when enabling this on my Buds 3 Pro.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your detailed thoughts about the UHQ Upscaler feature. It’s clear that you value both having control over your audio settings and a better understanding of what these features do, and your feedback is highly appreciated.

1) Clarify and Information

You’ve highlighted a key point about the lack of clear information on what the UHQ Upscaler does, and we agree that adding an info button with detailed explanations would enhance user understanding. Including specifics like what sample rates the feature affects (e.g., "This affects audio at or below 44.1 kHz") would not only empower users like yourself but also make the feature more transparent for everyone.

2. Remembering UI

Your suggestion for the UHQ Upscaler to remember its last state is a great one. It’s understandable that you’d prefer it to stay off if you’ve chosen that setting, especially if you’re concerned about unnecessary battery consumption or its effect on high-quality music files like those from Tidal. This type of user control would make the feature far more user-friendly.

3. Balancing Functionality and User control

It’s interesting to hear about your experience with the Buds 3 and Tidal, and it’s great to know you’re enjoying the audio quality overall. Your point about the Upscaler’s impact on already high-sample-rate music is insightful—while it might enhance some tracks, it seems unnecessary or imperceptible for higher-quality streams. Having an option to fully understand and control when it’s active would be a valuable improvement.

Thank you for your participation in Beta program.
