I haven't seen anyone else mention this and I'm wondering if I'm somehow the only one experiencing this. I've already done a factory reset and cleared cache from recovery with no change. I filed error reports both before and after the factory reset.

Ever since the 5th update on my Watch 6, whenever I workout the exercise icon does not show at the bottom of the watchface. So I can't press on it to get back to the workout screen. I've tried multiple Samsung watchfaces, a half dozen different types of workouts, did the factory reset, and cleared cache both before and after the factory reset.

It happens 100% of the time. I usually do 3 or 4 workouts a day and this is really annoying. Some of my workouts, I've stopped using the watch to track just because this is so disruptive to my workout. In order to get back to my workout screen, I have to open the app drawer, open Samsung Health, and click on the ongoing workout.

The other really annoying and disruptive thing is that in order to get to the pause or finish button, when I press the back button during a workout, it does not bring up that screen but sends me to the watchface. I then have to do the above steps to get back to the workout and hit the back button again to pause or finish. This has ruined many of my workout stats. Swiping right will not bring up the screen either and long pressing the back button will not pause and start either. It only works properly if I have newly entered the workout, not after I've actually been workout out.

Both of the above happen every time with every workout since the 5th beta. I thought the factory reset would resolve it, but no change to either of the above problems. Am I really the only one experiencing this?

Ah, I agree. I turn off health notifications so I dont get harrassed by so many health stuff. 'You are on target'! You have started moving! You are a champion etc etc . So in order to get the exercise icon we have to deal with the spam notifications from samsung health?

Very poor, the exercise icon should be categorised just like the other little icons are (like spotify etc). I can feel this is going to get irritating again. I also have Samsung phones and want the watch so its all uniform, but if this is not fixed I will be looking at a Garmin.

OMG @jcnote thank you so much for finding and posting a solution here. Since downloading Watch 6 UI I have been missing the exercise icon and it was driving me MAD.  Not just for exercise but too often when folding my arms my skin interacts with watch and starts an exercise. Before, I could recognise this with the icon but since it dissapearred I didnt know and it would record for hours. Your solution worked and I feel like I've won something - thank you!

UPDATE - I just re read further comments and ALAS, I remember why I had health notifications turned off. So now going to get spammed by useless health notifciations. Agree, very poor from Samsung. Such a simple fix. I used the watch 75% for exercise and agree it is very frustrating going the long way round to get to the exercise screen. GARMIN is my next watch unless fixed

I'm having the same issue since the last UI update, but turning on the health notifications didnt fix it. And i just realized i've never had its notification on, because i'd also turn it off if my watch tried to be my coach lol. Oh, I tried to restore the watch, also didnt work.

Edit: the health notifications shall be turned on in the watch, not in the phone like i did. Now it worked, kudos for the topic author.

Edit2: You can turn off those motivating messages trought the health configs in the watch's app.
