Bring back the edge panel which has the compass, ruler, etc. That panel was so convenient for checking things quickly and there is no reason to get rid of an amazing feature like that.
They did not get rid of Edge Panels the only thing that they did was get rid of the option to download new Panels from within Edge Panels you have to go to the Store and search for them now
