Why do most fonts on Apps cost money?

Why do most fonts on Apps cost money? Is it because of licensing/royalties?

I don't think the Font App developers want to work for free.

The same can be applied to other companies who make their apps free.

You can't put ads on fonts the way you can in apps. Everyone thinks everything should be free. Pay for the things you want so the people who make them can earn a living.
