Starting with the release of the Fold 6 series, Samsung Messages will no longer be pre-installed on future Samsung devices. Google Messages will be the only messaging app on phones in the US. Google is pushing this especially with the implementation of RCS compatibility on Iphones come September. RCS will only work from Google Messages to IMessage. Google owns Android, their platform, their rules.

Samsung Messages will still be available for download in the Galaxy Store, stripped of any real meaningful features.

Not only will Google Messages be the sole messaging app, RSC will be turned on by default. If you wish to have RCS chat features it will ONLY be available in Google's product.

I will bet that when the next update rolls out, all those that still have enhanced features in the Samsung Messages it will be gone. Samsung Messages will now only be SMS/MMS.

This is the future going forward with messaging in the US, you either jump on board with Google Messages or you can stay with Samsung Messages with no enhanced features.

Hello everyone, Welcome and thank you for being part of the Community. Google messages is pre-installed by default on all Galaxy Fold and Flip 6 devices. However, customers can download Samsung messages, if they would like to use Samsung Messages instead. This can be found in the Galaxy Store for download. Also, please note, that incoming SMS from samsung messages app on an old device can be securely transferred to the Google Messages App on a new device via Smart Switch.

To change the default messaging app
• Navigate to Settings > Apps > Choose default apps > SMS app
• Select the desired messaging app

To use call and text on other devices

IMPORTANT: To utilize call and text on other devices, such as Galaxy Tablet or Watch, all devices must be signed into the same Samsung Account the phone is signed into, and all devices must use the same default messaging app the phone is using.
• On the phone and tablet, navigate to Settings > Connected devices > Call & text on other devices
• Toggle on calling and texting

If Google Messages is set as the default messaging app,
• Open Google Messages on the phone > Select the Profile icon > Message settings > Advanced > Text on Galaxy device
• Toggle on the switch for Allow Bixby and text on Galaxy devices
