I'm trying to open my secure folder. I enter the pin and that's as far as I get. The screen where I entered my pin just stays up. Can anyone tell me what happened and how to fix it?

Open Secure Folder and enter an incorrect PIN to see the "Forgot PIN" option at the bottom of the screen.

Tap on "Forgot PIN".

Sign in to your Samsung account when prompted.

Select a new PIN, pattern, or password and follow the on-screen instructions.

Use your new credentials to open Secure Folder.

Method 2: Clear Cache and Data

Go to Settings > Apps.

Find and select "Secure Folder".

Tap on Storage and then select "Clear cache" and "Clear data".

Restart your phone.

Open Secure Folder and enter the wrong password to see the "Forgot PIN" prompt, then use your Samsung account to reset.

Method 3: Uninstall and Reinstall Secure Folder

Sign out of your Samsung account in your phone's Settings.

Launch Secure Folder and then tap on the option to Uninstall it.

Sign back into your Samsung account.

Re-setup Secure Folder and create new credentials.

Option 3 worked, but I lost sooo much data. What I've read says that the secure folder doesn't get backed up. Going forward, is there any way to back up the secure folder so I don't lose the data again?

You can back up secure folder to an external USB drive in Settings > Accounts and backup > External storage transfer. I can't remember the exact steps after that but it's pretty self-explanatory.

Yes it does, you can back up to an external USB drive. I've been doing it for a year and a half on my s24 ultra.

The backup to USB is done outside of secure folder in the main phone hard drive. Once you start the backup, it'll walk you through and ask you if you want to include secure folder. If you do, then when you restore, it will restore everything including secure folder. None of this is done while you are in secure folder
