Samsung Apps and ServicesSummary:
When composing an email in the Gmail app on Android, inserting a GIF via Samsung Keyboard unexpectedly launches a new draft window—even if the user is already mid-compose. This disrupts workflow continuity and risks data loss if the original draft isn’t saved.
Environment:
- Device: Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
- OS Version: Android 15 / One UI 7.0
- Samsung Keyboard: v5.9.12.10
- Gmail App: v2025.08.18.796307704
- Reproducible: Yes, 100% on affected device
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Gmail and begin composing a new email.
2. Type any body text.
3. Tap the emoji icon on Samsung Keyboard and switch to the GIF tab.
4. Select and insert a GIF.
5. Observe: Gmail launches a new draft window with only the GIF inserted.
Expected Behavior:
GIF should be inserted inline into the existing draft without triggering a new compose intent.
Actual Behavior:
- Original draft context is lost.
- A new draft window opens with only the GIF.
- Previously typed content may be unsaved unless manually backed out.
Verified Workaround:
Switching to Gboard preserves draft integrity:
- GIFs are inserted inline without triggering a new compose window.
- No loss of previously typed content.
Suggested Fix:
Samsung Keyboard should:
- Respect Gmail’s active draft state.
- Treat GIF insertion as inline input, not a new intent.
- Preserve user context and avoid launching redundant compose activities.
