Voice Typing Engine Missing in One UI 8.5? Gboard Still Uses Samsung ASR?

I'm running One UI 8.5 beta on a Galaxy device and using Gboard as my default keyboard. However, I’ve noticed that voice typing still seems to use Samsung’s speech-to-text engine — based on consistent substitutions like “Dan” → “dad” and “Ken” → “can.”

I’ve searched extensively in Settings (General Management, Accessibility, Default Apps, Digital Assistant App, etc.) and can’t find any exposed option to select or confirm the active voice transcription engine. Gboard’s own settings don’t show it either.

In previous versions, there was a “Preferred Voice Input” toggle or deep link to the voice engine setting. Has this been removed or relocated in One UI 8.5? Is the voice engine now implicitly tied to the keyboard app used, or is Samsung’s ASR being forced regardless of keyboard?

Would appreciate any insight from other beta testers or Samsung support — especially if anyone has successfully switched to Google’s voice engine system-wide.

Update:I just noticed that the only place I can still see the voice input selector in One UI 8.5 is inside the Samsung Keyboard app settings — not in General Management, Default Apps, or anywhere else in system Settings.

This makes me wonder if Samsung has relocated the voice engine toggle into the keyboard layer itself, effectively binding the ASR engine to the keyboard in use. If that’s true, it would explain why Gboard still seems to use Samsung’s transcription engine even when it’s the default keyboard — because the system-level voice input provider setting may no longer be exposed or honored.

Would be great to hear if anyone else sees the voice input selector outside of Samsung Keyboard, or if switching the engine there affects Gboard’s behavior. This could confirm whether the setting is now keyboard-scoped or still global.1768344390984.jpg
