Hi Everyone

update.

For months I have been chasing Samsung re: firmware updates, eventually I got hold of 2nd level support and a technician that actually knew something instead of giving me standard pre-canned responses.

I was using 1004 firmware and then upgraded to 1005, unfortunately there was not any improvement.

However, Samsung support gave me access to v1301...a big jump in version numbers and now this is on the support websites to download as a USB update. (I am not sure if it is available via auto updates as I had upgraded them all manually as at the time, the auto update process didn't have the new firmware).

I can say that this version 1301 has "improved" but unfortunately not eliminated the screen blanking issue. This is very disappointing, but that being said it is happening a lot less these days once I have upgraded to this firmware.

So if you are running on anything less than 1301 and have this issue, I suggest you upgrade to the new version. You won't regret it. I have contacted support again, to find out if they are still going to continue looking into this problem. [I have also indicated that I have another problem with the Settings - Number - Color button on the remote, and that my remote eventually stops responding to my monitor - oh well will have to wait for that to be fixed.]

Anyway back to the monitor problem. I only seem to have the problem with Display Port. (Don't matter what frequency as it still occurs - FYI I operate the monitor at 120Hz. But tried 60Hz and 240Hz and still same issues. However, if I use HDMI I don't have any issues at all. I am using a NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super; using G-Sync Compatible/Adaptive Sync.

I have this monitor (as well as a G6) connected to my main PC using Display Port and then a work PC connected via HDMI. I am mainly on HDMI during the day and have NEVER had the issue with HDMI on the G8. However, when using Display Port, the problem still exists. (BTW the G6 has never missed a beat - so if you only use one computer connected to the monitor I will suggest you change your cable to HDMI. But if you are like me that use two computers connected up, the one using Display Port will probably still have an issue.

Do other people still have this issue with the screen going randomly black for about 1-2 sec from time to time? What Frequency (Refresh Rate) are you using?

Thanks

Neal

My advice during the DDU installation: donā€™t forget to disable the internet and use Windows safe mode!

Monitor came in. I can't see manufacturing dates on it but most of it says 2024 on the parts. The firmware it came with is ver 1301

Edit: Did a pixel check to make sure all is fine. I wonder be able to hook it up properly until Saturday because I need to get it desk mounted and all that. Some short questions, is the only way to power it on without the remote, the inconveniently placed button on the back?

And second, seems like there will always be a red led when the monitor is in its off state? Can I disable it, I don't really like having any lights on in my room, or am I going to have to tape over it lol.

The latest firmware is 1313.2, so I definitely recommend updating.

You can turn it on using the remote control and/or the button on the back.

Regarding the red LED, the answer is yesā€”it stays on continuously when the monitor is turned off. As far as I know, it canā€™t be disabled, but check the menu just in case. You'll need to tweak some settings anyway to get the best picture quality from your monitor.

Thanks. You still havent had a black screen on the recent NVIDIA patch?

Any idea on the hour count now?

There werenā€™t any, but I only spent about 30 minutes at my PC yesterday.

Today and Saturday afternoon, I should have more time.

Iā€™m looking forward to itā€¦ and also a little scared. šŸ˜†šŸ˜‚

I don't noticed a Red LED light when powered off?

FYI. There are a lot of annoying things about this monitor - eg. menu staying on for a long time on power-up not to mention a few other things. I bought a Service Remote to allow me to change these settings (apparently they are only available for Service techs) - but I found out if you use it it is A) at your own risk and B) voids your warranty; so I am not doing it until my warranty expires. There are a few articles online that explain what settings you can change and what you cannot.

BTW, I hate the controls on the back of the monitor. I can see why they did it - basically to have minimal border around display screen, but they could have had better buttons on the side of the monitor (bottom side or left/right sides). I can live with that. I actually like using the remote.

Yeah, I've been wanting to do that service menu thing but I don't know if I will be voiding my warranty. Is that said anywhere ? Maybe EU is more lenient with that sort of stuff.

ChatGPT tells me that if I make changes that will end up causing harm to the device then Samsung can deny my warranty. So long as I don't actually mess things up, it should be fine.. apparently.. That pop-up is def something I want to remove.

Weird that you don't see that LED? That's so strange. Yeah you turn this thing off and that red light is just going to be on there, I kind of hate it but I'll put some sticker over it I guess.

Edit: After some research, looks like it will be an issue if I do any kind of service menu changes here as well. Well, I'll probably wait a little while before I do anything then. I really feel like something obnoxious like a pop-up should be adjustable for any owner of the monitor, come on. Why don't they just offer that option.. crazy.

Okay, well interesting day.

Firstly I am using the latest driver from Nvidia 572.83; I used DDU to uninstall my drivers. (I disconnected physically from internet - but didn't do safe mode as it didn't seem mandatory).

After re-installing and getting my settings the way I like, I have used the monitor.

I must say that after a few power-ons, i only had a brief flash of pixels (like at the bottom of my screen shot that I posted earlier but over my entire screen, then it was back to normal, no black screen). Literally it was so quick I could have blinked and missed it!

I will still keep seeing what happens after more use this weekend.

Now.... here is some very interesting news. I heard back my my Head technician friend at Samsung today after my email that I sent the other day.

He is waiting on a response from his R&D team. So we will have to wait and see.

However, he did say, and get this "Also I have checked the latest driver release note from Nvidia and it seems they addressed black screen issue on the RTX 50 series GPU but nothing regarding the RTX 40 series". I was curious about this statement, not sure if

A) this is correct and in fact RTX 50 Series Gfx cards now work.

B) he just gave me a bogus response because he read something in release notes (GeForce RTX 50 series] GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs crashes with black screen [5120886]) - I can't find detail about this Article ID that explains anything.... if anyone can find the detail please let us know.

I have asked him a few more questions based on this response to me; so if it was A) then surely a solution for RTX 40 series cards should be around the corner. If this is correct.... does anyone have a RTX 50 series card to confirm?

If it was A) then I would be surprised if they didn't fix it for 40 series at the same time.

But I suspect B) is the real reason.

I have asked what verification has Samsung done to confirm this...along with other questions.

Anyway.... hopefully i get a better response next week.

The only good thing I take at the moment with me is that the driver is behaving better than before AFTER using DDU to uninstall the previous driver.......mmmm maybe still too early to tell for sure.

I could be totally clutching at straws, let's see what happens.

I have not heard anything from nvidia based on my email to them.

I'm on a 50 series card myself so I should be able to verify this soon, plan to hook it up tomorrow. But I do believe it will be like you said it, and that he is referring to some screen fix that was GPU specific, and does not have anything to do with the issue that you were talking about, I'd be pretty disappointed if that was his reference honestly, lol.

But I will keep you posted on that one. The monitor swap to the desk mount is something I can't do alone so I havent been able to set it up yet.

@NealMcDealQuestion, in regards to the pop-ups etc. I was looking at universal remotes because I currently have too many devices here and I would like to get a single remote for my DAC and monitor.

Some of these remotes apparently allow you to do a macro, I was wondering if it should perhaps be an option to have a universal remote do the back input to get rid of the popups a bit faster after startup.

Also I am seeing this blue screen 'turn on the device connected to displayport' this is probably the most annoying one of the bunch. It lasts too long and even beyond me starting up my PC. It'll be a pain to get into my BIOS with how slowly it swaps over to my PC. Any thoughts on this stuff?
