The other day the 55 inch smart TV melted and caught on fire. Is this common? Part of the screen is gone now. Plastic has melted in it. A planter was below it and caught on fire. My roommate saw it smoking abd on fire. Burned her fingers putting it out. TV is not usable now, still turns on but missing part of the screen. Very disappointing.

If it caught on fire, I wouldn't try to turn it on. My suggestion is to unplug it and don't use it.

Oh, I agree with @Pianodude58 - DO NOT TURN ON THE TV and keep it unplugged.  If it's under warranty, get it serviced, but I'd be wary about ever using it again.  if it's not under warranty, decide whether it's more feasible to replace it rather than repair it. Check the outlet to make sure there was no power surge that caused this.  Even if you choose not to get it serviced, report it to Samsung as this is an event they should know about.
