The return button on my remote no longer flips between 2 channels. It keeps opening the home screen for Samsung. This is extremely irritating. I already have a Samsung TV button on the remote, why do I need another? I typically watch 2 shows at once and now I have to go into the guide to get from on to the other as it does not accept the Samsung TV channel number, only over the air numbers to get to by typing in.

Yikes!  Let's get to the bottom of this @EMSVampire!  Typically, it's one of four issues, so I'm hoping we are going to get you up and running.

The first question, are you using the original remote that came with the television or third party remote?

Second, the batteries been changed recently?  I could be time to swap them out.

Third, Have you used the SmartThings app recently? Some models have trouble if you switch between the smart things app and the remote itself.  If this was the case, follow these steps:

Turn off device notifications in the SmartThings TV app.
  1. Navigate to and open the SmartThings TV app.
  2. Select Settings in the top right corner of the screen.
  3. Select About SmartThings, and then select SmartThings Guide.
  4. Select Do not receive new device notifications.

Fourth, could you try resetting the TV for thirty seconds?  As random as it may sound, sometimes there could be an error that needs to be cleared.  To do this, cut power to the television for 60 seconds.

Please get back to us as soon as you can.  If none of the troubleshooting helps, please provide us with the model of the television so that we can look into this further.

Thank you for being a Samsung customer!

It is the original remote. Batteries in the past 12 months. It started after the last update. It is extremely frustrating as I have to go back into the Samsung TV home guide and scroll back to the show instead of using the return arrow like I have been able to for years. I already have a button on the remote that opens Samsung TV so having the return button do it is extremely redundant and irritating

If you've already completed the troubleshooting steps outlined above, can you please provide the model number of your TV, so we can offer more specific assistance?

Thank you for sharing this information with us. I was able to pull up your model, and I see the kind of remote you have. There is a function on the Return button that may fix this. Looks like if you hold the Return button for one second or more; It will terminate the function. Try holding the button for a few seconds; Then test out the Return button again.

If this doesn't resolve this matter, we may need to replace the remote. Can you provide the serial number of the TV? If you have owned the TV for over a year, then you should be able to buy a replacement remote at Samsungparts.com.

I tried pressing and holding for 1sec and a few seconds with no noted change. It still brings up the home screen for Samsung TV stations. I have owned the TV over a year. Trying to get a look at the serial number

Has anyone tried replacing your TV remote? If you haven't yet, you can try going to the Best Buy Samsung Workshop. They may have a TV you can test out if this is a universal thing with these remotes.

Yes, same issue after Samsung rolled out update! Samsung, it’s your firmware issue, please fix and push out firmware update.

I have had this exact same issue since receiving a new tv after the first one had non stop picture and sound issues from day one of purchase. I've tried all the above steps you mentioned and a lot more I found online and I've had no luck. I've now had this tv many months and I'm sick of having to enter the guide everytime, just to find the last channel and go back. Especially if the last channel was far down the guide. If there is anything else you can suggest to fix this issue, I'd very much appreciate it. Thank you
