Watch Connected for Calls only

I've had my Watch5 for some time now and under my Bluetooth settings it said, 'Connected for Calls, Notifications.' Ever since this update, it strictly says, 'Connected for calls.' I can't reply to messages or texts from the watch, which is mildly frustrating considering I use my watch in place of when I can't be on my phone. I've factory reset my watch a handful of times now, unpaired, repaired, deleted cache, etc. You name it, I've probably done it. Am I missing anything? Any way to fix this? Is this because of the update? Help ☹️

Have you ever wiped the watch's cache partition?  That may be part of the issue.

It is NOT an update issue.  The update may have taken away the extraneous connection, as it's not necessary. As I said, I have a watch 7 connected to an A54 and my watch ONLY says connected for calls, yet I get all notifications (the ones I allow anyway), texts, messages from FB messenger, etc. So your issue is probably something else.  It may be update related, but it is not because your watch says only "connected for calls".

Because Facebook Messenger is a different problem and it is squarely a Meta problem.  They had an update a few updates ago that appears to have severed that ability.  The only way currently around it is to uninstall Messenger and reinstall an older version, which you can get from APK mirror.  You are looking for version 485.0.0.58.111 (or lower).  Installing the lower version will not affect current functionality, as they really added no new features to the app in recent updates.  You have to make sure, though, that you turn off automatic updates in both the app settings AND the Play store, or the newest version will keep coming back along with the inability to respond from the watch.  It has been reported many times to Meta, and they have not bothered to address or fix the issue.

Watch is not detecting that it on your wrist. If it is not detecting it is on your wrist, it will not show notifications.

As soon as I went to watch settings > Security and privacy and turned off wrist detection, I started getting notifications again.

I don't know why all of a sudden it stopped detecting it was on my wrist, but turning off wrist detection definitely solved the issue.

This response has nothing to do with the original query.

Original inquiry was cause they couldn't reply from the watch. Which is the issue I had along with not receiving notifications.

As soon as you turn off wrist detection, all of that started working, including that I can now reply to messages from my watch. Sorry my original post was not more descriptive.

The original inquiry was that they could not respond from the notification on the watch and they thought it was because the watch connection said connected for calls only. Not that they were not getting the notifications. I'm glad your solution worked for you, and it may well be that the wrist detection was the issue, since the watch will not receive notifications if the watch is not on the wrist.  It could be your watch was too loose, which would also be helped by the wrist detection setting being off.
