My Samsung Pay watch plug in was just fine yesterday.  All my cards were in and worked, as they have for the past 2 years.  This morning, I went to pay for something using my watch and found that somehow the watch plug in had been reset and all my cards deleted--had to pull out the phone and pay that way.  Not having to do that was the reason #2 why I bought the watch in the first place.

I fixed it, and added all my cards back, but I don't know why it happened at all.  Nothing else on my watch or phone was amiss, and an app reset is not the kind of thing that happens by accident.  There were no updates, no sudden failure of the watch -- everything was normal and working fine.

Anyone have any ideas as to what happened?

Mine did this several weeks ago. I thought it was a fluke.

I had reset my watch for an unrelated issue, and I just added all my cards back 7 days ago.

Literally 10 minutes ago, I go to use my cards, and the app reset. I tried to reboot the watch and reopen, but then it wouldn't even reopen the app saying "App is being reset."

Now I'm left back at square one, for seemingly no reason.  My cards are also supposed to be backing up to my Samsung account. SPay makes me sign in, so they should be backing up. But when I go to import, it says there's no cards to import.

Do all my cards get wiped and I have to go through the process of going through my banks to get this readded all over again.

So this has happened twice in a month and this time, they didn't even stick for a week!

If this happens again, I'm going to GPay. Which is annoying because I shouldn't have to. I have a goddamn S24U. A Samsung phone! I should be able to use Samsung Pay on my Samsung watch that's paired with my Samsung phone!

For security reasons your cards don't back up.  Each time you reset your device, you have to re-add your cards to Samsung Pay.  The card data is not kept anywhere but on each particular device.  With an app reset you may be able to import your cards, but only because the app data on your device was not erased.  Importing takes just as long as adding the cards from scratch, so I don't usually do it.  According to Samsung, the app resets are Google's doing, but I doubt it.  Could be sabotage to bring everyone over to Google wallet, though.

This week and last I've started using Google Wallet, after SP on my Watch4 reset itself twice. Haven't actually tried it again after re-adding (via import) my cards for the 2nd time. Not sure whose fault it is, but it sure is annoying! And you don't know it's happened until you go to use it, and that can be embarrassing.

I haven't gone that far yet.  I've had Google wallet (pay) set up for years, but never actually used it except online as G-Pay.  So far my cards are still in Samsung Pay and working, so I'm not switching just yet -- but, next time...  At least Google wallet is all set up and primed.

1 week ago I received an update for the app and I haven't had any resets since then

This has now happened to me about 6 times in the past few months - all the cards completely gone, and sometimes I have to go through the entire setup process again. Several times this included the problem someone else described of getting stuck in a setup loop between watch and phone.

I'm pretty well done until this is fixed - going to use Google Wallet instead. But I shouldn't have to with both watch and phone high-end Samsung devices no more than 1 model back. NOT happy.

I hear ya! Happened to me and switched to Google Wallet. Have since added cards back into SP and it worked OK for me this past week. And now with both options on my watch I'm at least not going to be embarrassed at checkout again. Just not sure how easy / quick it is to switch from one to the other when under the gun, since they each want to be the default.

Exactly. I've added my cards back multiple times, sometimes having them work the next time I tried and sometimes finding that they had disappeared again. It's happened so many times that I'm just giving up for a while.
