Mirroring app notification sound on phone to watch??

I'm trying to figure out how I can get my gw 6 classic to play the same notification sound as on the phone for each app. Seems like such a simple and obvious thing but there doesn't appear to be a way to do it. The best I can do is change the notification sound globally. There should be an option in the wearable app to mirror the actual notification sound for each phone app.

You cannot. Not only does the watch not have the same sound library as the phone, it has a much smaller storage drive, so it would not be  possible to add any additional. Additionally, you cannot assign sounds to individual watch apps.  Why do you need a sound on your watch if your watch vibrates with notifications?

It has 16 GB of storage of which I have 5.1 GB unused. Enough for hundreds of thousands of short sound clips. I only have few dozen loaded custom notification sounds loaded and it didn't even move the needle on storage.

But this is beside the point. The API should support pushing the tiny amount of data for the notification sound data in addition to the text. It should of course cache it so that each notification from the same app for the same category doesn't need to keep pushing the sound byte.

Irrelevant. It cannot be done. Period.

I agree it's irrelevant but you're the one that said it couldn't be done because of space, not simply that they didn't think of it or prioritize it.

So let's move on. I've loaded customized notification sounds on the watch. Is there a way to assign each app a notification sound that exists on the watch? I can only seem to turn each app on or off, not assign the sound.

I didn't say it couldn't be done because of space, I said the drive is smaller than the phone drive, so adding lots of audio bits would leave less space for apps and other media, like actual music or photos. Not to mention the space required for updates and app activities.  Just because you have 5 unused GB, doesn't mean you get to fill it up.  There always needs to be a bit of free space - just like *any* computer.

And, no.  Watch apps cannot be assigned custom notification sounds.

I already have several GBs of music loaded. Another 10 MB for hundreds of notifications sounds is almost literally nothing.  So let's not keep going down that path. That argument was completely "irrelevant".

The answer, which I do appreciate you giving, given your expertise, is that it can't be done which is a bummer.

You are missing the point.  Every computer needs free "workspace" on the drive.  If you fill up all the space, apps can't open, your music can't play, you can't get updates, temporary health data can't be stored until it's transferred to the phone. Most importantly, your watch won't boot up.

I'm a long way from filling up the space to the point where there wouldn't be enough space to process watch updates. This is a choice. If I want more of this, then I have to have less of that. Some things just need the space and others just won't work fast, or take more data because there's less space to cache.

For THIS scenario, your argument is not relevant because the use case would use so little of the existing available storage that it's just not a factor. For example, I've already loaded all of the notification sounds I need and it did not move the needle on the used space given the tiny amount of space used.

And no, the watch will not fail to boot if you fill up all flash. It will not be able to process a watch update, but it will boot just fine.

The real point here is that a user should have the ability to make the watch their own- obviously we understand the limitations that smaller storage space brings. So, as adults, we make choices and prioritize what matters to us.
And along the way, we might also try to provide constructive supportive answers when someone reaches out.
