I have a Galaxy Watch Ultra, and although it is "waterproof", and I began by laughing in the face of danger in the past months, wearing it while showering and while bathing my children, etc. I am all too aware of the caveats in the fine print that discuss the degradation of the waterproof-ness over time with everyday wear and tear of the devices.
And I understand that.
If there is constant friction, or daily impacts, or a drop, it can and will compromise the integrity of that water resistant coating.

I've now copped out and have decided to rather take it off during watersports.

So I'm just curious, with that reality, do you fly in the face of danger and daringly dunk your devices?

Hello manjul, Welcome to the Community. We understand the concern with using the watch in water events.

Samsung's watches are NOT waterproof. They are water-resistant. This link contains several tips, such as rinsing the watch immediately after exposing to salt or chlorine, as well the specifications of the level of resistance based on the watch model: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS10002903/

It is recommended to use water-lock mode anytime you are getting the watch wet to prevent liquid from penetrating the watch. You can find additional information on this feature here: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS10002907/

You can swim with the watch and bathe your children, do dishes, wash your hands.  You should not shower with the watch (unless just rinsing off with clear water) as soap is not good for either the water seal or the oleophobic coating (or the sensors).  If you are a swimmer and swim with your watch for workout tracking or recreation, you should rinse the watch in tap water after immersion in a pool or salt water to rinse off any corrosive chemicals.  But, IMO, the soap is worse for the watch than either chlorine or sea salt.  If you are already showering with the watch on to no ill effect, there is no reason you can't go swimming with it. Make sure the water lock is on. This does not do anything to further protect the watch, but it does prevent the screen turning on and off during water activities, and when you turn it off, it blows out excess water that may be sitting in the speaker that can eventually be corrosive.

So when it comes to waterproofing Samsung's electronic devices, it it can only protect against clean water. Soap and salt water or any water that contains chemicals or incredibly hard minerals is going to degrade the coating that keeps your device sealed.

It is not recommended to go into the ocean or bathe your children with your watch or wash your dishes with it. In fact it's highly advisable that you don't do so. It's sealed for emergencies in case you get water splashed on you for when that happens or you have an emergency to do that once or twice but it's not an all day every day thing.

It's the same with Samsung phones. They can go out and experience light drizzles of rain being on their screen as long as your screen is overheated, but if you go out to the ocean and you experience salty rain weather, you're going to have a pretty bad time with your phone.

Also don't place your watch anywhere that it's going to be heated to get it dry, use a cool fan to whisk it away after drying it off with a cloth. Also watch out for a high humidities as it will ruin your watch and your phone.

You have to understand that they made this watch for rich and wealthy people so that when they go out and they go partying and their watches and phones get ruined, they can just replace them in a heartbeat because they have the money. They're not constructed for the everyday use of the everyday individual for the things in which they do of chores and work and such.

This is not entirely true.  The watch is specifically made to track swimming workouts.  Very few people swim in clear, fresh, pristine water.  Yes, Chlorine and sea salt can corrode, but if one is careful to rinse off the watch and blast out the water by turning off the water lock after swimming, it won't be an issue.  I have been swimming in both pools and seawater , more or less daily, for years with each of my watches to no ill effect, even though I rarely follow my own advice and rinse.  The biggest issue is soap.  Soap should not be anywhere near the watches.  As I said, it can compromise the seal, it will wash off the oleophobic coating and could clog the mic and speaker openings.  I wear my watch when I do the dishes, but I do not put my hand wrist deep in water when I do so.  I wash under running water.

Everything except for fresh water degrades the coating a lot quicker. This is been a fact that's been established for like Generations. If you're having any issues as to the complexities of the difference between freshwater and not fresh water on these devices, go ahead and searching your user manual and your warranties and contact Samsung themselves. They highly do not recommend that you go into ocean water or soapy water or any types of water that is going to degrade and take away from its coating. And the reason being is because there are more minerals and conductivity and those types of dirty Waters and especially ocean water.
