I have double tap to wake enabled. Double tap to wake works great if I had put my phone down 30-60 seconds ago. But longer than that it's an absolute crapshoot if it will actually wake up. Usually I have to double tap, see that it didn't wake, then double tap again for it to wake. Or just assume it failed and have to triple tap from the get go because I've assumed that my phone isn't working as intended. It's been like this the 4 weeks I've had it.

I have no screen protector. Turning on increased sensitivity makes the issue worse. Having it off did improve success rate to working the vast majority of the time but now a week later it fails to wake a lot of the time.

My theory is that the digitizer is **bleep** up where it interprets the first tap as a swipe while the phone is in a deeper idle state. Accidental touch protection is turned on. Lift to wake is turned on (which also has a very poor success rate compared to iPhones)

So what's my next step? Software is up date.

Have you run a diagnostic to see if it might be a hardware issue?

Have you cleared device cache after updates?

Diagnostic runs fine. I did the auto optimization, are you asking me to clear the cache partition?

Have you tried to turn off the accidental touch protection?

Wouldn't that leave me exposed to accidental touches when it's in my pocket?

Yes it would. So try to wear the watch instead. I had your problem until I turned off the touch protection. Also, being in your pocket could be still turning on and off and getting confused when you take it out. Remember it is AI and AI has its problems, because software has to be written for all potential problems. Watches only have a small amount of memory, because the operating system uses quite a bit of memory.

A solution of "go buy a Samsung watch so you can wake up your phone consistently with two taps" is an absolutely ridiculous suggestion. Nothing personal, I appreciate your feedback but that's not an acceptable solution on a $1200 phone.

This should not be an AI thing. If ambient sensor sees dark, it's likely in a pocket, don't register touches. If it sees the light it's likely not in a pocket, so register touches.
