I've been having issues with Facebook Messenger not loading new messages when I open the app. Notifications work fine but when I open the app, the messages do not refresh automatically and I have to either clear cache or force stop the app for it to work properly.

Latest updates are already installed and I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the app itself but the issue still persists.

I don't know.  Put in an error report with Samsung and Meta. Let them figure it out.  Everything works fine on my phone and everyone else's, so it must be a problem with *your* phone or phone setup.  I actually rolled back to a much earlier version of FB Messenger quite a while ago since an update hindered the ability to respond to messages from the watches.  I have not seen fit to update to a new version to see if they fixed that particular glitch, but I haven't heard that they have and I don't want to find out they didn't and have to go through the whole rollback process again.  My current version works fine.

This is not a helpful response.

This is an increasingly common issue (google it) with S25U users running the latest and "greatest" update, both my phone and my wifes phone (both S25U) exhibit this issue, while my iphone I use for work works perfectly fine.

Suggesting someone is the only one having the issue, because you are not seeing it on your older SW version is equivalent to saying "This must be a you problem because I don't see it on my iPhone running custom Linux OS"

The correct response is "Submit an error report to Samsung and Meta, hopefully they can address this issue soon"

It is still a Meta problem, not a Samsung problem. There are 100's of Andeoid phone's. Meta hasn't gotten around to fixing each and every Android handset.

I always have Facebook problems on every Android phone I have ever had.

No problems on my Ipad, Meta doesn't seem to care about fixing their Android issues, on flagship devices.

They work fine on A series phones. Because a lot of A series users use Messenger for texting. S Series users, not as much.

I forgot to add a message from the person that you directed this comment to.

They can't respond currently, so here is their message.

From @realaud What part of put in an error report do you not understand? This is a peer to peer user help forum and only Meta or Samsung can help you.

They are the entities that solve this for you. That's from me!

How do you roll back?? No matter what app I try, it tells me I cannot install that version

You first have to go to APKmirror.com and find an earlier version of Facebook Messenger (search for Facebook Messenger and a list of all the versions comes up).  I rolled back to version 485.0.0.58.111, but in  your case, you can probably just roll back to the last version that worked for you.  After you have downloaded and saved the apk to your phone. Uninstall Facebook Messenger from your device and, when it asks, do not save the data.  After the app is uninstalled, reboot your phone and locate the apk you downloaded  (should be in your download folder in file manager). Click on it to start the installation process.  After it installs, you will need to re-login and reconfigure your settings.  In the settings in the Messenger app itself, don't forget to turn off automatic updates, and then go to the Google Play store and turn off auto-update for FB Messenger only - you should probably do this before uninstalling and reinstalling the app, or you are likely to have an immediate update.

It's happening for me too, but weirdly if I turn off Messenger's app permissions for photos and videos the app starts working for sending and receiving messages!

I'm having exactly the same problem, also when I tap a photo to open in full screen, it's blank. Only forcing to stop messenger helps for a short while.

Just got an S24 Ultra and after I transferred from my S23, same issue with messenger stops working after clear cache and force stopping app. Photos and videos gallery was not opening when trying to send through messenger. I found a cumbersome fix and haven't had an issue since.

1. Uninstalled messenger

2. Put phone into boot mode, holding power and up button after turning phone off and waiting for Samsung logo. Ran into another another error when doing this, where it wouldnt gwt into boot mode. Had to turn phone off, plug phone into a  PC  until it started charging and then I could enter boot mode.

3. Clear cache partition then reboot.

4. Install messenger.

5. Repeat boot mode and clear cache.

6. Set up messenger and allow permissions.

7. Repeat boot mode again and clear  cache.

I'm not sure if the last clear cache is necessary but fixed everything for me. Hope this helps for anyone else.
