I saw a note dated 11/x/23 on this subject with no actual solution. This is not for call ringtones, this is specifically for text notification sounds. I found it quite advantageous to know which contact was trying to reach me by the sound of the notice. If I was working on something that I didn't want to drop and I knew who was texting, I could decide whether or not to respond immediately. Apparently it was also important some other users. There was a response thanking the person who put up that post and stating it would be reviewed. There is no additional response at to where that currently stands. Therefore, I am forced to conclude that the decision was no. If that is the case, can someone explain why?

Thanks and Regards,

PJ

@usern9ja5mImxH You can do this:

  1. Open Google Messages
  2. Click on the conversation
  3. Click the 3 dots in upper right
  4. Click on Details
  5. Click on Notifications
  6. Click on Sound
  7. Change the sound to the one you want for that conversation

They should understand, though, that the custom sound will stay attached only as long as that chat exists. Deleting the chat deletes the sound assignment, as the sound is attached to the chat, not the contact. So, if one has group chats with overlapping contacts, one would be able to tell if it was the individual or the group.
