I am experiencing a significant problem with the Google messages app as it repeatedly closes (crash) when I open it on my S25 Ultra, US edition. I have tried clearing the cache, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, but the issue persists, rebooting the phone and still the issue is present. What steps can to resolve this?

Thanks Bro! Wish I could mark this as the answer.

I just woke up form a nap and tried to check my messages on my ZFlip 6 and the kept crashing every time I tried to open it.

I did the routine of restarting and clearing cache but like you I was scared of losing all my messages (was about to do a complete uninstall, reinstall) . Did a google search, checked some reddit posts for like years ago lol and then finally came across your post.

Tried it and it immediately worked and stopped the crashing.

Thanks!!!

This is the fourth time that this has happened to me.  The previous three times I took my phone to a T-Mobile store and the techs ended up deleting "Google Messenger" and reinstalling it as a last resort.

Before doing this, they always backed up my data.

This time I tried T-Mobile online tech support.  He had me do the usual of clearing the cache and restarting my phone which did not work.

He then had me clear my "storage" data which concerned me without backing up my phone.  It even states that all "data" will be lost including "messages, passwords, etc.".  I raised my concern, and he assured me that it would be ok.  He was correct.  Problem solved and that fixed the problem.  For how long remains to be determined but as of now it works.

The tech also mentioned that sometimes a VPN on the phone will cause the same problem, so it is recommended that you turn it off and then back on once you have finished with messenger.
