I was curious if anyone had a solution to this issue I'm facing with my S25 Ultra.

I prefer to keep Battery Protection feature on maximum 80% for my day to day life, I'll manually turn it off if I know I have a big day coming up.

When my phone is at/near 80% with battery protection on, placing it on a wireless charger will cause the phone to pause charging (which is good), but the wireless charger will start flashing and refuse to resume charging again once the percentage begins to sag.

This issue is especially visible in the car driving at night as the display will light up when charging pauses, then lights up when the charger drops out, plus the flashing light on the pad are all very distracting.

Is there a way I can structure a routine to float my battery between 80 and 85% similar to 'basic' mode of battery protection?

Thanks to anyone taking the time to read!

Here is a google search to create a routine to do what is needed,

  1. Access Modes and Routines: Go to your phone's settings, then find and tap on "Modes and Routines".
  2. Create a New Routine: Tap the "+" button to create a new routine.
  3. Define the "If" Condition:
    • Tap "Add" under "If".
    • Search for "Charging status" and select either "Charging (Wired)" or "Charging (Wireless)", depending on your charging method.

    • Tap "Done".

  4. Define the "Then" Action:
    • Tap "Add" under "Then".
    • Search for "Protect Battery" and select it.

    • Set the desired percentage limit (e.g., 85%).

    • Tap "Done".

  5. Set a Time Period (Optional):
    • To make the routine active only during certain times, tap "Turn on Automatically".

    • Set the desired start and end times for the routine.

    • You can also set it to repeat on specific days.

  6. Name and Save the Routine: Give your routine a descriptive name (e.g., "Night Charging") and tap "Save".

Tom - I appreciate your input, but that routine does little more than turn on battery protection when charging. Again, the intent is to keep battery floating between 80-85% while wireless charging to #1 prevent short cycling and #2 prevent the wireless charging pad from throwing an error code.

The only routine I've been able to develop is actually a pair of routines. One routine turns on battery protection at the high side cut-off forcing the device to stop charging. The second routine turns battery protection back off as the percentage starts dropping.

Hopefully this is useful for someone else, or if anyone has suggestions on how I can improve these routines, let me know! 1754842380038.jpg1754842380046.jpg

This two-routine solution did not work - without fast charging enabled the wireless charging pad won't be able to understand what's happening with the trickle charge top off. See my post below for more info.

With fast charging turned on, the phone will sit happily on the wireless charging pad and will stay in battery protection mode with the shield icon for prolonged periods.

If you are experiencing issues with your wireless charger flashing a trouble light when your phone is at/near top off (mine is 80%), I suggest you check your fast charge setting.

I setup a routine to turn on fast charging when the phone is at/near cutoff. Most of the time I don't need the extra strain of fast charging so I had this turned off for when I actually needed a faster charge.

The only downside I've seen so far is that, when idling at the top off point, the charging pad is very warm to the touch and the phone is mildly warm compared to "slow" (not-fast) charging.

My casual research suggests you need to have fast charging on for the phone to interface with the pad using Samsung's fast wireless charge protocol. Without this protocol, the pad doesn't seem to understand what's happening when the phone wants to throttle down to a trickle charge.
