I just got a new Samsung S24. It doesn't give me the option for a white background on texting. It only shows dark mode. I Googled it and that didn't help.

@TLCO23 If you are using Google messages, click on your avatar (typically circle with your initial). Select Messages settings. Select Choose theme. Click on Light.

Is yours the S24, or S24 Ultra? And have you found an answer yet? I think I can point you in the right direction

So I didn't see the response until I commented, but the comment above is what I would say try. On your msgs home page, you'll see your google profile in upper right corner. Click on the circle (profile pic) then scroll all the way down until you see "select theme". Choose light. That's it that should change it from dark view to light View

Samsung Messages, apparently, will keep your default system mode, so if you are using dark mode, the messages app will be dark.  Google Messages will allow you to change the theme.  So, if you want light mode in messages and you are using Samsung Messages, you will have to change your whole system to light mode.  Or, you can switch to Google Messages, which is better anyway and will be the default when Samsung messages goes away.
