Still Didn't get a clear answer. One UI 7

I bought a refurbished fully unlocked s24 but don't have one ui 7. I do not have a sim card yet and my settings are as follows. 

Do i need a sim or am I having a problem?

I come from Kenya hence we use a carrier called safaricom. I put the sim in the phone for 2 or 3 days, and I think the network connection to the carrier was fluctuating on and off. I am planning to get an American sim so that I can get the update. Another thing, when I insert the Kenyan sim it removes my access to the community channel even though my location is american. Maybe that has something to do with it. I'm not sure

Is your phone itself a US version?

You can use your laptop or computer with smart switch to update your phone.

I tried that on smart switch, I wasn't getting an update option. The 2 options i got were backup and recovery

If I remember you have to click the top three dots in the right corner and something like device information

The update option is on the computer side.  In the app on the computer, you have to tap the dot menu, and you will see the option for update.

The S24 has eSIM . You shouldn't need a physical SIM card. I bought an unlocked S24+ right before the S25s came out. I activated it through the eSIM and later got the update just fine.

I think I'd prefer getting a physical one, would be easier if I decided to eventually go back. Any specific carrier I should look out for?
