My wife is the hospital for a long term stay situation. I brought a roku for her to watch YouTube TV and the rest. The wifi won't cut it so I turned on her hot spot and it's been great. I switched her to the unlimited ultimate plan too.

I came in this morning and the phone was off and she said it was too hot to touch before it stopped working last night. It is plugged into an Anker usb-c charger and battery protection is set to maximum and limited to 90% charge.

Any ideas what happened? What can I do to prevent it? She's not really even using it except for a few brief texts and the Hotspot.

The hotspot will generally heat your phone up. I don't think the battery protection or charging state has anything to do with it. My easiest recommendation is to turn of the hotspot periodically. Otherwise, try closing all apps except the hotspot and enabling power saving mode with the 70% cpu limit. This might give you performance issues though : ( unfortunately, other than wrapping an ice pack in a thin towel and placing the phone on top of it that's my best recommendation. I hope you find a solution.

I have used the Hotspot for a week straight with no issues. I have a routine that puts the phone into power savings mode when I turn it on. It does everything except limit screen brightness and the home screen. I also have the performance profile set to light.
