I updated to one UI7 last night and now my battery while on idle is draining extremely fast.

Had I known this would be an issue I would have never updated to this crappy software.

This is a major issue and like I said I can notice the extreme battery drain while the phone is idle.

If Samsung doesn't fix this issue I will be filing a claim as to me this is now a defective item that they caused.

If you’ve got a large contact list, syncing with Google can consume serious battery life. To manage this, I set up a Bixby Routine: Auto sync OFF when not charging, ON when charging. Simple solution, right?

Except Google Contact Sync ignores those rules. I charge overnight—plenty of time to back up. Instead, it waits and syncs when the phone isn't charging.

Anyone else run into this?

Found a workaround?

If Google Contact Sync is ignoring your Bixby Routine — where Auto Sync is off while unplugged and only on while charging — the likely cause is that Google’s sync services operate outside of Android’s standard Auto Sync toggle in some cases. Here's a breakdown of possible reasons and solutions:

Why Google Contact Sync May Ignore Auto Sync or Charging Conditions

1. Deferred Sync Behavior
Google uses a deferred sync model. If sync was scheduled while Auto Sync was off, it may still execute when your phone wakes, unlocks, or regains network access, even if that doesn't match your charging condition.

2. Google Play Services Sync Layer
Contact sync isn't handled only by the Google Contacts app — it's tied to Google Play Services, which has system-level privileges. This means it can:

Queue sync tasks even when disabled temporarily

Wake up background sync jobs based on its own schedule (not Bixby's)

3. App Standby Buckets and Doze Mode Conflict
If the phone enters Doze or app standby, scheduled syncs might trigger as soon as those modes are lifted — regardless of whether Auto Sync is toggled back on.

4. Account-Level Sync Independence
Each Google sync service (Contacts, Calendar, Gmail, etc.) has its own trigger conditions and tolerances. Toggling Auto Sync affects the umbrella setting, but each service still enforces its own retry logic in case of failures or missed syncs.

Hey, I appreciate your post. All makes sense and items that I found when researching as well.

The question is whether anything can be done. I'm at the point where I might turn off Google Play Services and contact sync.
Way too manual of a process though.

Sounds like I may have to just let it go.

It would be nice if Google instituted a framework for scheduled backups and when on WiFi only. That's really what I am aiming for.

I've been out and about depending upon battery life, and then Google Contact Sync turns on, phone is heating up, battery is dropping...not a great scenario.

Great points—this issue really highlights how Google’s deeper sync layers can override user intent. While battery management alone won’t fix it, a partial workaround could help both functionally and in preserving battery:

1. Go to Settings > Accounts > Google > [Your Account]

2. Toggle Contacts sync off

3. Use Bixby Routines or Tasker to re-enable it only when on Wi-Fi and charging

It’s not foolproof, but it gives you more sync control and may reduce heat and battery drain when you’re out and about. Let’s hope Google builds more granular sync scheduling into Play Services soon.
