Poor quality phone calls

When I'm talking on my phone I get feedback, distortion, garbled sound from the person I'm taking to.  My wife has the same phone and it happens to her too.  Any suggestions.

What type of service provider are you using, and are you on LTE or 5g most of the time? Also your wife's phone?

If you are getting LTE... that explains the problem, if you're both getting 5G... then that's just wierd
