Notification sound level is different for Bluetooth headset versus wired earbuds

Hi,

This is quite annoying. I have different notification sounds for different apps on my S24, so I know which particular app is alerting me. The problem with this is that the notification volume level is completely different for my Bluetooth headphones versus wired earbuds.

If I'm listening to my Bluetooth over-the-ear headphones, I hear the notification sound at the full usual volume with music playing at a constant volume. When I listen to music on my wired earbuds and the notification alert sounds, the music volume drops significantly while the notification sound plays. Even with the music sound level decreased, I can barely hear the notification alert. For some reason it plays at a very low volume level for my wired earbuds only. I only really know the alert has gone off because the music volume decreased, I can't really hear the notification at all.

There shouldn't be any reason why these two different devices have such different notification alert sound level behaviour.

Any ideas? Thanks.

OK, I have solved the problem but don't ask me why it's this way.

If I put my system notification volume right up (the one with the spanner symbol), all alert notifications sound loud enough to hear with my earbuds in.

Just to be clear, the notifications that I am talking about that were too low, were NOT system notification sounds, but WhatsApp, SMS etc. and they were already set high.

Thanks contributors.

Have you adjusted the Bluetooth sound level slider? This slider is only available when an audio capable BT device is connected. If you keep the volume on your ear buds at a lower level so you don't blast out to your ear druns, the notification sounds will also be low. While you are adjusting the BT sound level, you can also make sure the notification volume is where you want it. Buds are different than headphones, as being *in the ear* is different than being *on the ear* and affects your hearing differently.

Hi,

My post describes the situation very distinctly so I'm not sure if you have understood it. By the way, both volume levels are the same.

Headphones over Bluetooth are behaving in the correct manner. While on Bluetooth, the notification sound plays in a normal way, at normal volume without the music sound level decreasing.

With earbuds, it's completely different. The music volume decreases to about 5% of where it was, the notification sound plays at a much lower volume as well so you can barely hear it. It's wrong.

Buds are different than headsets and in addition to the BT volume slider you may have to adjust the notification sound volume slider. I imagine with buds, since they are in your ears and, thus louder, the notification volume may automatically lower so your hearing is not damaged. Many people who keep there notification sounds on, keep them at high volume, which may be fine through the phone speakers and headphones (because they are not IN your ears), but need to be lower for buds. If you feel the notification sounds are too low with buds, check the notification volume slider.

Another note, a few days later I noticed again that the notification sound was low on earbuds, but my system volume was high, as tested in my last posted. I put system volume right down and could now hear the notifications better. So...is it up or down? Who knows!?

The moral of this story is, if you're experiencing this issue, play with the system volume until it works.
