Double tap wake and Lift to wake not working

I just want to see the time.

I have Double tap to wake and Lift to wake on. I also have accidental touch protection off.

Double tap sometimes turns the phone on. Lift to wake never turns the phone on. (I lift it maybe 3" from table or nightstand and turn it towards me)

I have a s24fe Global edition with all The updates. 

My previous phone (Motorola, $50) I tap once and wakes up to show me the time. 

Why can't I do that simple thing on this $400 phone?

You can create a routine to have power saving kick in at a higher percent.

If battery level at or below 29%
Then power saving on.

Ok did that and turned on Aod.

Now the time is always there. But when I get a txt msg AND  fail entering my fingerprint (s24fe), I can't swipe the screen to bring up the pattern unlock.

I have to press the power button then swipe the screen to bring up the pattern unlock. That seems like an additional step

The double tap to wake will work on the AOD.  Double tap to open the lock screen (or push the side button), then slide up the lock screen or tap the fingerprint unlock).  Also, if you have fingerprint always on, even though it's invisible on the AOD, if you place your finger on the spot where it usually is, your phone will unlock by fingerprint and go straight to your home screen (you can do this even without the AOD on). Go to settings/lock screen and AOD then scroll down to where it says "looking for something else" and select "fingerprints".  Enter your password, and then scroll to "fingerprint always on" and turn the slider on.

Frankly, pushing the side button to wake, seems easier than the double tap on the screen, especially if you are having problems with double tap.  Using the fingerprint unlock by keeping the fingerprint scanner always on is even easier, but with the AOD, you don't even have to unlock or wake the phone if you just want to see the time.

Aod tends to use battery up not save battery

AOD doesn't even show up in battery usage stats.

Find me the AOD stats. My AOD is always on. OK it shows up, but its negligible.

Just got updated to UI 8.

Aod still works. I can see the time.

But neither double tap or lift to wake works to get to unlock screen. I have to push the power button to get pattern screen. (S24fe fingerprint scanner doesn't work with winter dry hands. I've even entered a set of winter fingers and still doesn't recognize)

Make sure your settings didn't get changed in the update.  Clear the phone's cache partition.  As for the fingerprint reader and dry hands, moisturizer will clear that right up.
