Galaxy S24Device: Galaxy S24 Ultra
OneUI 6.1 (up to date)
Is there a way to block notifications from a specific app on a schedule, such as the Do Not Disturb schedule, regardless of allowed contacts?
All I can find on this topic is enabling Do Not Disturb, but that doesn't solve the problem I've run into:
I have Do Not Disturb enabled, but I'm allowing contacts to be able to break through DND. I want to keep it this way as I have any number of family or coworkers who might need to reach me in the middle of the night (I work IT for a company and I've added a bunch of coworkers to my contacts who might need to reach me in the middle of the night, so I want to leave it as allowing all contacts, not have to manage a short list of favorite contacts.) This has worked great until now!
I have family members traveling in Europe and given the time difference, they start sending WhatsApp messages about their travels when they start their day, which was like 4 AM my time. I assume I got awakened because Do Not Disturb recognized the message senders as members of my contacts, even in WhatsApp.
I don't want to tell them not to send messages, pictures, etc. until later, because in their travels, they may not have availability later in the day to do so. And also, and maybe the bigger, idealistic issue- this is something that **SHOULD** be solvable by our devices, letting people do what's convenient, and our devices taking care of our preference to sleep if it's not an emergency. So in my mind, this should be easily solvable by technology, not having to change other people's actions.
So this is what I'm looking for:
- Still allow all contacts to reach me via phone, text (Google Messages), etc.
- Block all notifications from WhatApp on a schedule, ideally my DND schedule.
I don't want to have to manage favorite contacts; I'll no-doubt forget to add some people to it, no doubt forget to take people off that list, etc. And the only App-specific exceptions I've found so far is to wholesale allow notifications from an app (as an exception to Do Not Disturb) instead of a way to completely silence an app during DND. I want to do the opposite of the app exceptions (called "App notifications") in Do Not Disturb Settings. I want to add an app to **always block** while DND is enabled.
I'm fine with it being something outside of DND, like something in Modes/Routines, etc. Just trying to find something that will do this.
Or am I stuck just turning off notifications for WhatApp manually every night and trying to remember to go back into notifications and turn them back on every morning manually?

Galaxy S24Thank you for the reply, @GaryB82.
Unfortunately, I'm not allowing WhatsApp in that list. Mine says "None allowed there too:
I had referenced that setting in my post when I said this:
And the only App-specific exceptions I've found so far is to wholesale allow notifications from an app (as an exception to Do Not Disturb) instead of a way to completely silence an app during DND. I want to do the opposite of the app exceptions (called "App notifications") in Do Not Disturb Settings. I want to add an app to **always block** while DND is enabled.
So WhatsApp is not in that list. The problem is that WhatsApp is receiving messages from those in my contact list, and that's what I believe is allowing the notifications to break through DND. I'd like a way to in essence, allow contacts to break through DND, **except** for one app: WhatsApp. I want that app's notifications always blocked while DND is on, regardless of contacts.
Just a way to turn off all notifications for an app and then turn them back on for that specific app on a schedule, outside of DND settings would work well too, since I'm guessing DND isn't capable of what I'm trying to accomplish.

Galaxy S24On some of my WhatsApp chats Iāve muted them completely so they donāt notify me when a message has been sent for a your exact reason Iām trying to sleep and people in California will start messaging and wake me up. That was the only solution I could find at the time but I will continue looking for you.

Galaxy S24Okay, thank you for continuing to look, but I hadn't thought of just muting that one chat. š¤¦ā That'd be easier than jacking with notification settings all the time.
If you think of any other way, (or if anyone else in the community here has a cool way to automate notification settings), I'd still be super appreciative as the next thing I'll end up doing is forgetting to mute the chat, and still get awakened at 4AM! š

Galaxy S24I leave mine on mute and only look if I wanna send them a message or see if they say something through out the day. Since they would normally wait until 12am to start messaging junk which wasnāt important I told them to stupid once I was trying to sleep lol
