Anti-malware apps unnecessary?

Hi all,
I recently installed bitdefender antivirus free on my S24. Twice it said it wasn't able to scan an app because it said that it was recently installed. That app had been there for a while.

I suspect that anti-malware apps are not needed for galaxy phones. I don't side load anything, and I don't download apps just for the sake of downloading an app. If I don't need it I won't download it.

Thoughts on the anti malware issue? I really don't think they're necessary.

Thanks.

Generally, using a separate anti-malware app on a Samsung phone is unnecessary and may even be detrimental. Samsung phones come with built-in security features, including Google Play Protect and Samsung's own Device Care with malware scanning capabilities. These, combined with safe browsing habits, are usually sufficient to protect against malware.

I think Galaxy phone should have security features. Also, download from the Galaxy store or Play store. And if you are downloading a APK, make sure it's safe.

Thanks. I don't download APKs. I don't see the point. 👍🏽

You’re on the right track — for most Galaxy users, especially if you're not sideloading apps or clicking on random links, extra anti-malware apps really aren’t necessary.

Samsung phones already include multiple layers of protection:

Google Play Protect scans apps for threats before and after you install them.

Samsung Device Care includes a built-in malware scanner powered by McAfee.

Samsung Knox adds hardware-level security for things like secure boot, data isolation, and real-time protection.

Using a third-party antivirus app can sometimes cause more issues than it solves — like false alerts, performance slowdowns, or conflicting scans. Unless you're doing something really out of the ordinary, you're probably already well protected with what’s built into your Galaxy S24.

Thanks for bringing up a solid question — this kind of discussion helps others think about their own setup too.
