I had Google Messages and Samsung Messages both installed on my S23, and now Samsung Messages is not there anymore. I cannot download it anywhere at the Samsung app store. I thought for One UI 8 they were going to update it.

That could be a big problem if you're a watch user. Messaging from the watch won't work properly if Samsung messages is deleted from the phone. When I had Samsung messages disabled and tried to use voice commands on watch to send a message it would not work

It would only work from Google messages app on my watch if I did it directly, but it broke voice commands and a couple other options that I can't remember at the moment

Samsung Messages is only included on the S25.  They did put a legacy (non RCS) version in the Galaxy store, but it is only available for compatible models.  You won't see it if your model is not compatible. I believe they still intend to let the app die, so you may as well get used to Google Messages.  If you have a watch, Google Messages is installed as a companion app on the watch.  Change your Wear app settings to not allow messages to the watch from Samsung Messages and allow them from Google Messages.

What has this to do with Google?  Samsung removed Samsung messages from their phones because of the move to RCS.  The carriers are supporting Google's version of RCS, and Samsung is sunsetting Samsung Messages.  They have included a limited version, compatible with only some models, in the Galaxy store.  If you don't have one of the compatible models, you will not see it or be able to download it.  Only the version for the S25 (and possibly the S24) will have RCS, but it's a very limited in functionality version of RCS.

Only T-Mobile users can still use it apparently. I'm with Verizon and they told us we had to migrate to Google Messages. Although weirdly it was pre-installed on my unlocked s24+.
