Galaxy S23What's s maddening about this, is that some people claim their phone is okay... so there must be some variable causing this, or else every one would be hot now...

Galaxy S23Clearing the cache partition is a first step. I understand that YouTube is a prime offender of overheating, even if you don't use the app. Go to the YouTube app settings and under "battery", make sure it is either optimized or restricted. You can also put the app to sleep. Putting the app to sleep and/or restricting the battery usage will still keep the app usable, it just won't wake up and go running in the background trolling for new content. Content will update when you open the app. Since the app cannot be deleted, if you don't use it you should be able to disable it. If you can't disable it, the next best thing is deep sleep. You will still be able to view YouTube videos on the web through social media apps or a web browser.
You can also download Good Guardians and the Thermal Guardian module from the Galaxy store. Using the thermal guardian will give you an idea of which apps are causing your overheating situation (if it's something other than YouTube).

Galaxy S23Yeah, I tried the cache clear twice now: once as my initial attempt to troubleshoot, and a second time after I did my factory reset. Neither had any effect.
And unfortunately, disabling YouTube doesn't seem to be helping. I've got the guardians app, and it's not very helpful, because the phone gets hot during everything, and it says every app is the cause. Was I charging? Then charging was the cause. Did I use Firefox? Then Firefox was the cause. The only time it's happy is when it's completely idle and the screen is off. I can't disable 100% of everything... that's like saying the phone will work so long as you don't use the phone.
I'm so frustrated with this, it's unreal.

Galaxy S23When I brought it to my neighbor who's an Assurion tech he said the battery didn't fail bc of the heat per se, but that the battery failing is what caused the heat.., i dunno, it's left me feeling that Samsung can intentionally (randomly) run secret code to fail a phone to get more sales.. lol

Galaxy S23I hope that's not the case... my phone actually has a brand new battery in it... my original started bulging in January, so I had it replaced, and the replacement battery has been fine from then on until now. Even now it lasts as long as it ever did. I'm almost 100% this is something else, but I'll be damned if I can figure it out.
According to the internals, it's my cpu that cooks, and eventually that starts warming up the rest of the phone.

Galaxy S23One thing to note is that you have an older phone and the newer operating system makes more demands on the hardware, which can cause overheating. No, you can't turn off everything, but you can make sure your battery optimization settings are correct. You can go into settings/battery/background usage limits and turn on "put unused apps to sleep". This will prevent apps you don't use very often from running in the background, including updating. They will still be usable when "woken" and updates and new content will download when they are opened.
