Galaxy S23

Just upgraded from the s10e to the s23. It's definitely a downgrade in some areas (lack of headphone jack, no SD card for storage expansion, etc) but I thought hey, it's a small phone like I need, decent camera, no AI like the new s24-s25 right?

Right.... until the phone did a system update and now my s23 is riddled with all the generative AI b.s.

Does anyone know if you can completely remove it? Or am I stuck with "disabling" and hoping to forget the huge Galaxy AI tab now in my settings? Will I have to "disable" the AI with every new update?

Does anyone know if android will eventually make an update where AI isn't forced on us? Can they not create an update where AI is optional / an additional download for those that want it?

I seriously am thinking about returning this phone and just using my wonky s10e until it completely dies. I have never been more disappointed in samsung/android than I am right now. Ridiculous.

(Editing to add: I've made this post using my s10e. I will use the s23 as little as possible because of this situation.)

UPDATE: couldnt return the phone due to the system update that happened, which canceled out the return policy. I have reactivated my s10e for now and will use it until it dies out. the s23 will be kept as an unfortunate last-resort backup for when the s10e dies, unless i can find someone to sell it to. Out of $350, no closer to a genuine upgrade, and beyond frustrated. Yay samsung. ๐Ÿ™„ the s23 is a serious downgrade on multiple levels and I will not make this mistake again.

UPDATE 8/6: writing the update on my s10e still, but I switched over to Apple for the time being. Still without a headphone jack and SD card, but my iPhone 15 is small, has 0 generative AI (even with system updates), better storage. Maybe I'll come back to android in a few years, but for now I'm vibing with the change. Using my old s10e as a browsing phone currently. The s23 has been gifted to my mom; she also immediately wanted the AI turned off.

Hopefully in the future samsung will create a phone that 1) has a good baseline for internal storage (start at 256gb minimum, since the system and undelete-able apps take up so much space), and 2) have 0 generative AI features (make the AI a separate download if needed for the small percentage that wants it). Bonus points if they can bring smaller models back.

Until then, see yall on the flipside.

Hi, I don't know if im directing you to the best way on your issue but, I want you to know you can toggle some stuff off that uses AI features. I'll add some screenshots for you. And I hope it helps a little. I think you can utilize for more Google assistant too and not Gemini ..I think well I hope this helps. The first pic is when you go to settings >Galaxy AI > and toggle everything OFF as you scroll the entire page> toggle ON the processing done solely by the phone's DATA or keep it OFF , but you can play with that one and see what's best for you 1753679760491.jpg1753679760556.jpg

I appreciate the help! I've already toggled as much of the AI off, the tabs are all over the place in the phone. Switched to Google assistant and then immediately toggled that off, as well. Sigh ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ

Howdy, after scanning issues I just wanted to know if you've ever taken advantage of the wonderful Bluetooth over the ear studio series headsets with all the features of noise canceling.
Myself, after getting my set I've now enjoyed Pink Floyd to a new level not heard in 40 years.
And at 70, this is huge with some hearing loss.

I just wish the window were typing in was any size dragged, vs this tiny 3/4" tall window with phone.
Now I see just why I love my Note20Ultra even more after issues seen across this feed.
I have huge SD card as well.
Just moved crowded Gallery to SD of 25,000 images and videos.
Cheers

My phone is currently ui6.1 with the update... does the AI get worse with ui7? Should I try to hold off on the ui7 update? (Going from ui4.1 on my s10e to all these new "features" is rough)

I do not have Google messages on (immediately switched to the original messaging app upon purchase). Toggled off all the AI tabs I could find.

My issue is this is just forced upon us with no true opting out.

You should see the ai setting in settings galaxy Ai or if you dont may vary on earlier models in the search bar type in ai should tell you where it is advanced features and advanced intelligence look for process on device only and turn that on

You can disable everything and use the phone normal. The AI features aren't intrusive and you just forget you have those capabilities.

Every feature has been disabled. I'm still getting "try gemini" pop ups / icons on the phone though. Having AI added to my phone to begin with is the intrusion.

The "try Gemini" is a Google thing - complain to them.  I never get it because I have turned off all notifications from Google services.  Everyone knew AI was coming to phones - all phones.  All Android phones from any brand will have Gemini in some form or another, because  Android is Google. Other specific AI features would depend on which brand phone you have and which AI engine is being used - but on an Android phone, you can bet it won't be from a Google competitor. So, if you actually want a phone with less AI features that you don't have to go in and disable everything, by an A series phone if you want to stick with Samsung, or a low end model of another brand.  The advanced AI features are only available on anything other than the A series.
