Galaxy S23I've done some searching, and what I want to do doesn't currently seem to be possible on my S23 Ultra:
I want to be able to prevent certain apps from ever being put into Deep Sleep, but still allow them to be put into regular Sleep mode. Samsung seems only to offer disabling automatic optimization entirely, or adding apps to the Never Sleep list.
I think this could be handled by a combined sleep list showing all apps, with two toggles on the right: the first one enables or disables an app to be put in Sleep mode. When that one is on, a second toggle would be activated which enables or disables Deep Sleep.
This would work similarly to how Location Access works: apps can be given Location Access, and when it is enabled, a second setting toggle enables or disables Precise Location.
Implementing something like this will give users better control over how apps use battery power, and whether or not they are able to give notifications and be updated.

Galaxy S23No, once you put them in the sleeping category, they go back to sleep after you use them, unless you use them again within a short period of time as long as you have the slider to put unused apps to sleep. I currently have that slider off, yet I still periodically get notifications that my apps are being put to sleep for non-use. I only manually put apps in particular sleep categories if I've found their background use to be problematic. You only have to put them in a sleep category once. The next time the background usage limits kick in, it places them in one of the categories, depending on your optimization selections. It doesn't matter whether they are sleeping or deep sleeping, the apps wake up when you use them, you just have to re enable any permissions for sleepers.
I find that most apps do not run in the background frequently, and if they do, it's briefly, mainly to check for updates. I put social media to sleep, because they always want to run in the background, and I don't need them there. It does not affect my notifications or use of the apps and they go right back to sleep after. I adjusted the battery usage settings for most apps to be "optimized", you can also restrict background usage without putting them to sleep. Apps that I need to run in the background I exempt from optimization. You adjust the optimization by going to the individual app settings and tapping on battery and selecting an optimization option. What you choose determines the sleep category. Restricted goes into deep sleep, optimized goes into normal sleep and unrestricted are never sleeping. This may be what you are looking for.
