I heard that Samsung is offering a five-year warranty on Android updates on its latest Galaxy S phone. Given that the battery cannot be replaced, does Samsung guarantee battery life for at least five years?

Batteries last at most 3 years with or without use and degrade over time. Even if Samsung guaranteed the battery for 5 years you are still looking at least one battery replacement during a five year period to get peak performance.

Batteries are only covered for a year for standard limited warranty.

The only five year warrenty that I found with Samsung is for appliances, not phones.

The batteries are replaceable, its just a bit hard since you need to pry off the glass back.
