Change Google messages notification

In my messaging app I'm having difficulty change in my notification sound. I clicked on my messages then went to messages settings and I couldn't find where to change the notification sound messages on new incoming messages

Phone settings
Notification
Advanced settings
Manage notifications categories for each app
Then go to Google Messages and follow the pictures below

I can't see the pictures

The original poster removed the pictures, as they probably reached their picture upload limit.  You don't need the photos if you follow the instructions. If you want to enable notification categories open your settings. Go to notifications, scroll to advanced settings, tap on advanced settings and then scroll to "manage notification categories for all apps" and turn the slider to on.  Now, when you go to the notification settings for any app you will see categories.  If you tap on the categories, you can enable, disable, or set a custom sound for any category.

I have same problem. I just got Samsung Galaxy 24+ and there is no option for changing notification sound; just turning sound on or off. There is no notifications category at all in settings nor advanced settings

This must be turned on in the device's settings before it shows up in the app settings, please read the post before yours carefully as Garyb82 details what needs to be done quite well.
