Auto back up automatically backs up your data once every 24 hours. However, for this, your phone must be charged, connected to Wi-Fi, and the screen must be off for at least an hour. (Note the US website says charging instead of charged)
Do they mean with the term "charged" just plugged in regardless of battery level? Even if I have 100 percent, I need to plug in the device for automatic backup?
Yes, even if it is fully charged, it needs to be connected to the charger. The backups occur between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. when the phone is not in use. If it is in use at any time during that period, the backup will delay until an hour has passed from last use, so if you are up all night using your phone, it will not back up for that day. Backups will resume the next night.
Thanks a lot for clarifying. But i just found this site that says above 70 percent battery also works. Is that true? Also, does that mean when I turn on the screen again between 1 and 5am that it must wait again for 1 hour during which a continous turned off screen must the case, before proceeding with backup, given that the other conditions are met.
I only know as long as the battery is above 30% (and 70% is more than 30%) it will back up. I do believe it has to be plugged in. I charge at night, so it's always plugged in at night even after it's fully charged. My phone usually backs up between 11 pm and 1 am (sometimes later). You can check it's been backed up and at what time by going to settings, accounts and backup, (Samsung cloud) backup data, and it will tell you the last time it was backed up. Last night mine backed up at 11:14 pm because the phone was charging and idle.
