All videos played in landscape view on my unlocked S22 Ultra in recent weeks have a goofy shadow, very similar to the smallest pop-up view shape & size. I thought it was the streaming app.. I've since tested it, however & the exact same issue applies in every app that plays videos.

It looks similar to a burn-in image yet obviously isn't since it doesn't appear while doing anything else, immediately disappears when the video is rotated back to portrait view & is captured in screenshot (in the few video apps that allow a screenshot/image isn't just black). Seems very obviously software, not hardware.

Restarting didn't resolve. Revoking all appear on top permissions didn't resolve. Force stop & cache clearing video apps didn't resolve. I don't allow background running for most apps & since this applies to 10+ video playing apps - quite obviously NOT a 1 specific app problem. Can report problems to app developers...... & Google... But not Samsung?? Seems very clearly a Samsung matter.

Found posts on what sounded similar, OP & commenters all said S22 - only a few were clear about what S22 variant.. Then really ignorant proposed 'solutions' unfolded as replies. I'm not adverse to (only mildly annoyed at) prospect of a full reset, yet I'd like to avoid it I can & doubtful it'll correct it if it's an ongoing issue with S22s. Mildly suspicious it's a attempt to 'encourage' me to upgrade, yet really not interested right now (nor remotely amused, if true). Also makes little sense to send it in/pay/wait for repair if it's a known issue with the S22s.

Open to ideas, increasingly frustrating & no meaningful solutions I can find.

What app are you using to play the videos?  Can a different app be used to see if the problem persists?

Try restarting in Safe mode, to disable all other apps, and see if it persists that way, if not, then a 3rd party app is causing your issue.

SOLVED!! Software updates seem biweekly in recent months... I manually checked/found/installed an available update. Less than a minute after it restarted, optimized & finalized - another system update screen suddenly popped up with install now or schedule install buttons. Weird & novel: I hit install now. Entire update process repeated all over again. Once it finished, I tested 3 video apps in landscape view = stupid shadow gone!! :party_popper:

[Tried ~10 video apps after initially thinking it was Discovery+ yet the oddity that the 'shadow' only appeared on landscape view, not portrait: struck me as likely NOT an app issue. Then tried a bunch more: YouTubeTV, YouTube, Daily Motion, Curiosity Stream, Tubi, Pluto, ETC = all the same facts were true of each.]
