After an update, my entire contents of DCIM folder has been deleted.

Check Google photos.  Your photos back up to Google Photos.  If they have remained in Google Photos (they should), you can download them all to your phone.  You will, unfortunately, have to recreate your albums.

 

Nothing should be erased from your drive during an update, but sometimes things go wrong.  It is always recommended to backup your phone prior to any update.  You can backup to an external device or utilize Samsung's temporary cloud storage.

The same thing happened to me. It did delete everything in my DCIM folder. Many of these photos were for my business. This is stolen property by Samsung.

It's not stolen property, it was a glitch and, as I said to the OP, photos are backed up to Google and recoverable from there . It is also incumbent on the user to protect their data by regularly backung up anything important and it's especially important to do so before installing an update, as things can go wrong.

If you have photos for your business, it's especially important to always have them backed up. The fact that you didn't is on you alone.
