Galaxy S Phones1. Open Settings.
2. Go to Apps.
3. Pick the app you want (for example, Messages, Gmail, WhatsApp, etc.).
4. Tap Notifications.
5. You’ll see categories (like Messages, Email, General notifications, etc.).
6. Tap the category → you should see Sound → pick a different tone.
Some apps don’t let you choose their notification sound and will just follow the default system sound.
See if this works.

Galaxy S Phones@Jules411 is correct. The ability to turn notification categories on/off did not appear until Android 14/OneUI 6.0. Prior to that, the notification categories already existed, so all you had to do was go to the app notification settings and set your custom sound and turn on/off any categories you did not want notifications from.
