I know many ppl think I'm being old-fashioned about this, but I have a 400GB MicroSD card, of which I've only used maybe 75-80GB so far. My S20 FE has been having lag/other performance issues lately, and its probably due to the lack of it being eligible for a non-Security UI Update/Upgrade. Now I looked up and saw that the A56 doesn't have expandable storage. I figured the A56 might be a bit better than my S20 FE, but I'm not getting it if it doesn't have expandable storage. I only have Google One so that I don't have to delete my emails (although I probably should lol) and don't want to have to use it as a primary method of storing photos/videos/possible audio/music. I swear that the ditching of expandable storage is a way of forced herding of ppl to Cloud ☁️ Storage as primary, and is consumers must fight this. The Identity of flagship Samsung phones 📱 were widgets, expandable memory, and a more flexible and user-friendly experience than on an IPHONE (for example, idk how to clear an app's Cache nor to force stop an app on an IPhone). One of the key features to that flexibility/friendliness was the MicroSD card, even if u needed a USB device to xfer from a smaller to larger when u needed the extra space. Also, there's not much room for extensive media storage after u have enough apps on your phone, and it wouldn't be enough unless u have a 512GB capacity or higher. It's simpler to just put the MicroSD slots back into all the phones.

Face reality, it's gone, never to be heard from again! I think you need to find another hill to die on.

Not going to happen.

Thankfully, Samsung is one of the few (maybe only) brands that frequently offers FREE storage upgrades as a promotion. My current device is a 512GB model purchased for the exact same price as the lowest storage option.

Personally, I'm unlikely to fill that internal storage any time soon, but if I do, I'll move my files to an external drive and call it a day.

External flash drives are a thing. If you have so many photos taking up space on your phone, just curate the ones you always need to have with you and put the rest on a flash drive. You can always carry the flash drive with you. If your phone is lagging, you likely do not have enough free space for the apps to work efficiently and/or you have not been performing regular maintenance tasks, such as wiping the phone's cache partition, optimizing (defragmenting) apps, clearing app caches, and emptying the trash. The fact that you'd rather pay for cloud storage than empty your GMail, tells me that maintenance is not a priority for you.

As time goes by and new devices are developed, you will see less and less devices (of any brand) include this feature in favor of larger storage drives and more advanced hardware (even budget models).

I know what external drives are. I like having photos accessible on my phone, and you're being very judgmental. ADHD inhibits ppl from clicking separate boxes and deleting bc it takes too long and is tedious. Furthermore, the GMAIL app doesn't have a function where u can do a select all to delete emails.

My Gmail app does. Long press on one email and then tap the select all box.

To the previous commenters in this post, you are the reason things like this stick around. Companies try to do new things to get you to buy more stuff, e.g. get rid of expandable internal storage in favor of cloud storage services which cost money, and they see how long you will put up with it. Too many of you just accepted it and now look where we're at... If they're trying to force us all to go Esim the least they could do is turn the SIM tray back into an SD card slot...

No one is forcing you into an eSIM.  The eSIM is an option in dual SIM phones, as most of them are these days.  Only Verizon requires an eSIM - they always did.  Also, we accept that there is now new technology and larger storage space so there is no need to have an SD card slot on the phone.  We all know how to utilize a portable hard drive or flash drive.  No one is being forced to use or pay for cloud services if they don't want to.  Options exist to store their precious data locally.  Not a single person on this planet needs to keep their device full of every single photo they ever took.  Every so often they can offload (backup) their photos to an external device and keep only their most desired photos on their phone.  If they absolutely have to have every single photo they ever took with them at all times, then the can carry their flash drive with them.  Many have keychain loops for that purpose.  I have one that is small enough and attractive enough to be a necklace.

Oh my God you always find my comments and nitpick. And you're wrong. Google pixel 10s in the US, unless you do that trick and get a repair replacement, do not allow you to have a SIM card. The SIM tray is gone... So yes they're working their way up to that too.
