Personally, I use spigen tempered glass screen protectors. Matte is not my preference, though I understand why someone would want a matte screen protector.
I want to forget i have a screen protector on my phone, and the spigen largely accomplishes that. Easy applicator so that it's perfectly aligned every time, no cutouts, no rainbowing.
The anti-reflective properties of a matte protector would be the primary (potentially sole) benefit over a standard tempered glass protector.
