Google is taking a page right out of Samsung's design language, make everything so small you can barely see it if you wear reading glasses.

The sent and read receipts are barely distinguishable now.! Ugh

Haven't the read indicators been that size for some time? I don't think they scale with text size.

Text size doesn't make a difference the check mark size is the same.

First, I don't like the new style of checkmarks.  I like the double circles much better, although I don't know why two check marks are needed. Second, I prefer them the way they are, below the text bubble not in it. Third, unless they are tinier than the current double-bubble checks, they should not be that difficult to see; unless it's because they are actually inside the text bubble, making it difficult to distinguish between sent and read.
