I am not the kind of person who wants to micromanange my phone with tasks like manually turning location on and off to save battery.. that being said it's very annoying when phone services and google play services are pinging my location every MINUTE. My Fold 7 lost 16% of battery over night doing nothing from play services waking up 31 times. This kind of recklessness with location pinging needs to be addressed since one UI does not let users manage the google play services at all.. it just does whatever it wants and for the past year it seems to have taken a large part in killing people's batteries needlessly. After being on iphone for the last 3 years id thought maybe samsung would have finally gotten a grasp on battery management. not the case.

You could try setting up a routine to disable location under certain conditions.

I'm not sure why you think that location services is draining your battery. I have the Z Fold 7 as well and the most battery usage from the Play Store is 0.6% .

So, here's what I'm thinking. Location detection is determines by passive GPS or via cell tower triangulation. If your phone cannot get a good network signal it will constantly ping looking for a tower to connect, which will definitely drain your battery.

Try 'reset mobile networks settings' in Settings.

when im home on wifi its still doing it non stop. and i have disabled all things like location accuracy, scanning, etc. play services is the only thing the phone is actively doing while not in use. i put all my heavy hitter apps like social media into deep sleep, took it off charge and did nothing. google play services was at the top of the usage list after 8 hours over night. ive done a whole reset, boot into safe mode to confirm its not a 3rd party app, uninstall play service update, done it all. nothing is stopping location from the constant use besides disabling it.

It's not going to use the internet to determine your location. Did you reset the mobile network?

Did you reset the mobile networks?

Sounds like you have a network connection issue and may need a new SIM.

Hmm. I would still contact your network provider and have them run a network system check on your phone. It may be an issue on the backend.

Location services uses negligible battery power (I challenge you to show me the battery use from it in your battery stats).  Your location was always being accessed at all times with the older operating systems.  Now, they have decided to let you know your location is always in use, much the same way that they inform you when the mic and camera are in use.  It is normal for your phone to lose that amount of power in a 7 hour time span (how much does it use in 7 hours during the day?).  Your phone is not idle overnight, that is when backups and updates happen and Google trawls for app updates and updates your apps.  Google Play services is what makes your phone work, so putting it to sleep is not an option.  If you feel as if it's using too much power, Google is the entity to direct your wrath to.
